Terms and Conditions
These Terms and Conditions ("Terms") govern your access to and use of the Outroads mobile application (the "App") and any related website (together, the "Service"), operated by LowRange Labs ("we," "us," "our"). LowRange Labs may be contacted at lowrangelabs@gmail.com.
By downloading, installing, or using the App, you agree to be bound by these Terms. If you do not agree, do not use the Service.
1. About the Service
Outroads is an outdoor navigation app for iOS and Android that uses online maps and map styles, third-party thematic layers, saved places, and user-imported GPX tracks. Outroads is a navigation aid, not a substitute for your own judgment, preparation, and skill when traveling outdoors.
2. Eligibility
You must be at least 16 years old, or the age of digital consent in your country if higher, to use the Service. If you are using the Service on behalf of a minor, you are responsible for their compliance with these Terms.
3. License to Use the App
Subject to your compliance with these Terms, we grant you a limited, personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable, revocable license to download and use the App on devices you own or control, for your own personal, non-commercial use.
The App is proprietary, copyrighted software. Except for the license above, no rights are granted to you in the App's source code, design, or underlying technology. You may not copy, modify, decompile, reverse-engineer, distribute, sublicense, or create derivative works from the App, in whole or in part, without our prior written consent.
4. Acceptable Use
You agree not to:
- use the Service for any unlawful purpose or in violation of any applicable law or regulation, including trespassing on private property or entering areas where access is restricted or prohibited;
- interfere with, disrupt, or attempt to gain unauthorized access to the Service, its servers, or any connected networks;
- use automated means (bots, scrapers, crawlers) to access or extract data from the Service without our prior written consent;
- misrepresent map, trail, or safety information within the Service, or upload content that is unlawful, harmful, or infringes the rights of others;
- circumvent any offline-map, licensing, or access restrictions built into the App.
We may suspend or terminate your access to the Service if we reasonably believe you have violated these Terms.
5. Map and Third-Party Data
MapLibre Native is the rendering SDK used to display the map in the App; it is the map engine, not a map-data provider. OpenFreeMap hosts the online basemap styles and vector tiles, whose map data is based on OpenStreetMap and the OpenMapTiles schema. The European Environment Agency (EEA) provides the Natura 2000 protected-area and Water Framework Directive (WFD) water layers. Campsite locations come from OpenStreetMap data queried through Overpass. Natural Earth data provides low-zoom shaded relief in the Liberty style.
Third-party data is supplied by its respective source and may be incomplete, outdated, or inaccurate. Trail conditions, protected-area boundaries, campsite information, and similar data may not reflect real-world conditions, seasonal closures, private-property boundaries, or local restrictions. Third-party datasets are subject to their own licenses and attribution terms.
The map attribution is: “OpenFreeMap © OpenMapTiles Data from OpenStreetMap”. MapLibre Native is acknowledged separately as the rendering SDK.
6. GPX Imports and User Content
The App allows you to import your own GPX track files for display on the map. Any files you import remain your responsibility. You represent that you have the right to use and import any files you upload, and that doing so does not infringe any third party's rights. Imported tracks are processed and stored locally on your device, and we do not review or verify their content, accuracy, or safety.
7. Offline Maps
The App allows you to download map data and layers for offline use. Offline maps are provided for your convenience and, like all map data in the Service, may become outdated and are subject to the accuracy limitations described in Section 5. You are responsible for keeping offline downloads up to date and for verifying critical information (e.g., protected-area status, trail closures) through official sources before relying on it in the field.
8. Accounts
The Service does not currently require a user account. If we introduce accounts in the future, additional terms governing registration, credentials, and account security will apply and will be presented to you at that time.
9. Future Paid Features
The Service is currently offered free of charge. We may in the future introduce paid features, subscriptions, or in-app purchases (for example, premium map layers or extended offline storage). If we do, the applicable prices, billing terms, renewal and cancellation terms, and refund policy will be disclosed to you before purchase and, where applicable, processed through the Apple App Store or Google Play in accordance with their respective terms. These Terms will be updated accordingly before any paid features are introduced.
10. Outdoor Activity — Assumption of Risk
Outdoor and mountain activities carry inherent risks, including but not limited to terrain hazards, adverse weather, wildlife, remoteness from help, navigational error, and physical injury or death. By using the Service to plan or support outdoor activities, you acknowledge and agree that:
- you are solely responsible for assessing your own fitness, skill, equipment, and preparation for any activity;
- you will not rely solely on the App for navigation, safety, or route-planning decisions, and will carry appropriate backup navigation, supplies, and safety equipment;
- you assume full responsibility for your own safety and the safety of anyone in your care, and for compliance with all local laws, permits, and protected-area rules;
- LowRange Labs does not organize, supervise, or endorse any activity you undertake using information from the Service.
To the maximum extent permitted by law, LowRange Labs is not liable for any injury, death, loss, or damage arising from or related to your use of the Service in connection with outdoor activities, including where caused in whole or in part by inaccurate, incomplete, or outdated map or trail data.
11. Disclaimer of Warranties
THE SERVICE IS PROVIDED "AS IS" AND "AS AVAILABLE," WITHOUT WARRANTIES OF ANY KIND, WHETHER EXPRESS OR IMPLIED, INCLUDING WITHOUT LIMITATION WARRANTIES OF MERCHANTABILITY, FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE, ACCURACY, OR NON-INFRINGEMENT. WE DO NOT WARRANT THAT THE SERVICE WILL BE UNINTERRUPTED, ERROR-FREE, OR SECURE, OR THAT MAP, TRAIL, OR LOCATION DATA WILL BE ACCURATE OR CURRENT.
12. Limitation of Liability
TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY APPLICABLE LAW, LOWRANGE LABS AND ITS OFFICERS, EMPLOYEES, AND CONTRACTORS SHALL NOT BE LIABLE FOR ANY INDIRECT, INCIDENTAL, SPECIAL, CONSEQUENTIAL, OR PUNITIVE DAMAGES, OR ANY LOSS OF DATA, PROFITS, OR REVENUE, ARISING OUT OF OR RELATED TO YOUR USE OF, OR INABILITY TO USE, THE SERVICE, EVEN IF WE HAVE BEEN ADVISED OF THE POSSIBILITY OF SUCH DAMAGES.
NOTHING IN THESE TERMS EXCLUDES OR LIMITS LIABILITY THAT CANNOT BE EXCLUDED OR LIMITED UNDER APPLICABLE LAW, INCLUDING LIABILITY FOR DEATH OR PERSONAL INJURY CAUSED BY OUR GROSS NEGLIGENCE OR WILLFUL MISCONDUCT, OR LIABILITY THAT CANNOT BE LIMITED UNDER ROMANIAN CONSUMER-PROTECTION LAW.
Where liability cannot be excluded, our total aggregate liability arising out of or related to the Service shall not exceed the amount you paid us, if any, for the Service in the twelve (12) months preceding the claim, to the maximum extent permitted by applicable law.
13. Intellectual Property
The App, including its software, design, branding, and original content (excluding third-party map data and your own imported content), is the property of LowRange Labs and is protected by copyright and other intellectual property laws. These Terms also govern your use of the underlying software. All rights not expressly granted to you are reserved.
14. Privacy
Our handling of personal data is described in our Privacy Policy. Please review that policy before using the Service.
15. Changes to the Service or These Terms
We may modify, suspend, or discontinue the Service, or any part of it, at any time without liability to you. We may update these Terms from time to time. If we make material changes, we will provide reasonable notice (for example, via an in-app notice or an update to this page). Continued use of the Service after changes take effect constitutes acceptance of the revised Terms.
16. Termination
We may suspend or terminate your access to the Service at any time, with or without cause or notice, including for violation of these Terms. You may stop using the Service at any time by uninstalling the App.
17. Governing Law and Disputes
These Terms are governed by the laws of Romania, without regard to its conflict-of-law principles. Any dispute arising out of or relating to these Terms or the Service shall be subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the competent courts of Romania, except where mandatory consumer-protection rules of your country of residence entitle you to bring proceedings elsewhere.
18. Miscellaneous
If any provision of these Terms is found unenforceable, the remaining provisions will remain in full force. Our failure to enforce any provision is not a waiver of that provision. These Terms constitute the entire agreement between you and LowRange Labs regarding the Service and supersede any prior agreements on this subject.
